‘Tilt to cut’ - the collection
This collection explores the potential of working with wooden offcuts, specifically from laminated beams. These are produced in standard lengths but are often trimmed to fit the unique dimensions of architectural projects, leaving behind valuable offcuts. Rather than using the beam in its original form, I reimagined its rectangular profile. With a single, thoughtful cut, it is transformed into two dynamic, triangular pieces. These are then brought to life through craftsmanship.
The Valley bench is constructed from a single beam of 1.2 meters. The first saw cut defines the seating element, while the next two cuts create a playful and functional composition. The burned and brushed surfaces reveal the textures exposed by cutting into the beam, highlighting the story of both the material and its transformation. This creates a striking contrast between the original, plain outer surface of the beam and the newly crafted inner side of the wood.
The 2square stool consists of two stools, each representing one half of a beam. One is burned, the other left natural, a visual and tactile contrast.
